Mongoose & Zinnia
My name is Mérina AniJardin, I am a Caribbean Earth Skills student, and a Tracker student, and an artist, and an artivist of both the fine arts and the performance arts. I practice survival skills to live closer to the earth in the ways of our ancestors.
I grew up on an organic commercial farm on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands of the Caribbean. I’ve been doing community theater since I was 7, practicing Caribbean earth skills in the rainforest of our island since I was 8, and drawing since I could hold a piece of charcoal.
some things I do and make:
- produce local art shows around environmental activism
- hand woven cat’s claw vine & banana leaf baskets
- carve designs into calabash bowls
- illustrate cards
- Original drawings and paintings for sale
- make fashion with the invasive red tailed boa snake skins I’ve tanned
- write, produce & act in local films about VI culture & social justice
- Consider the next seven generations
